The presentation will explore key topics essential for advising clients in the context of divorce, including:

1. Important estate planning topics to raise with clients who are considering divorce.
2. Options for protecting assets before, during, and after divorce.
3. Unwinding prior estate planning strategies, such as ILITs and QPRTs
4. The role of pre- and post-nuptial agreements in safeguarding a client’s estate planning wishes.
5. Coordinating with Legal Counsel: Recognize the significance of collaboration between estate planning professionals and divorce attorneys to develop cohesive strategies aligned with clients' evolving needs.

Shannon McNulty, The Village Law Firm
Attorney Shannon P. McNulty is the Founder of The Village Law Firm, which provides comprehensive tax and estate planning for individuals, families, and small business owners.  Ms. McNulty counsels clients on legal strategies for building and preserving their wealth and protecting their loved ones, with a focus on clients with international planning issues.  

Ms. McNulty is host of the Global Village Law and Money Podcast, which helps foreign nationals make smart legal and financial decisions.

Ms. McNulty graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center and received her LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.  She has also earned the CFP® designation from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.  

Shannon is a member of the New York Estate Planning Council and the International Section and Trusts and Estates Section of the New York State Bar Association.

Jacqueline Newman is the managing partner of the matrimonial law firm of Berkman Bottger Newman & Schein LLP in New York City, which is one of the largest matrimonial law firms in New York.  Jacqueline’s practice consists of litigation, collaborative law and mediation and negotiating prenuptial agreements. Ms. Newman is the author of the book, “The New Rules of Divorce: Twelve Secrets to Protecting Your Wealth, Health and Happiness” which was published by Simon & Schuster in January 2020. She has appeared as an expert commentator on various television and radio shows and has been quoted as an expert in numerous publications, including NBC News, ABC News, CBS News, The New York Times, Woman’s Day, Glamour, the New York Post, Reuters.com, Crain’s New York Business, U.S. News and World Report, Business Insider, USA Today, Yahoo Parenting, Woman’s Day, CNBC.com and The Huffington Post.
