"What’s in the estate? Legal issues concerning possible Nazi-looted art"

About the Presentation:

In the past 25 years, awareness about and resource concerning art looted during World War II has proliferated.  This impacts both survivors and families, but also collectors and art market participants as well that must factor into estate planning.  This lecture will give an overview of the legal issues that have predominated and use illustrative case studies to explore a deeper understanding.

He is Senior Vice-Chair of the Arts, Cultural Institutions and Heritage Law Committee of the International Bar Association.  Mr. O’Donnell is the author of numerous articles and papers on the subject of Nazi-looted art disputes, and the author of the book he will discuss today: A Tragic Fate—Law and Ethics in the Battle Over Nazi Looted Art (Ankerwycke 2017), the first comprehensive overview of disputes in the U.S. over allegedly Nazi-looted art, and a frequent contributor to Apollo magazine.
